Six Days On The Road
&roid and vee To Learn The Subtle Arts Of Truck Driving
November 20th, 2004 -- When I think of truck-driving, I immediately think of glamour. Nowhere else does the romantic spirit of the American explorer still thrive. Truly these men of men have done one better than De Fuca, Frobisher, and Cartier – though theirs is not a waterbound Northwest Passage, but one of pavement and lines. Someday I dream to live such a life...
A telling entry in &roid’s fledgling diary, dated September 6th. And so it came as no surprise to insiders when he and vee enlisted in a joint-degree program at Central Pennsylvania Institute. When asked for comment on their choice, vee replied: "We wanted to pick a respected institution at which to pursue graduate work in Real-Time Road-Baaed Logistics Management – Central PA was the obvious choice."
Faster than you can say "10-4 good buddy," they were well on their way to becoming king’s of the road. Some in the industry are wary of the competition, claiming that a robot driver is a threat to their bottom-line. "That dagnabbit robot ain’t never gonna have to stop for shut-eye or eats. His durn nucular reactor gonna power thar rig. Just ain’t fair," quoted one particularly fed up yokel. "I ain’t sure what’n that other bum does anyways. Why in tarnation you need two drivers ifins you gots a robot? I’m a thinkin’ they must be some of them thar commie-pinkos."
&roid only had this to say in response: "Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with that dialect. I might have to upgrade my language matrix in order to have success in this field." vee only could muster a mumbled "I ain’t no bum."
May the truck stops be plentiful and the road ahead clear of smokeys.
Long Live The vee Revolution.
