Jake’s At-times Awkward Aural Assemblage, Part 2
Vee Device - And Quiet Flows the Dawn, Act 1
www.cdreviews.comTackling an album like And Quiet Flows the Dawn, Act 1 is something that we critics are getting increasingly familiar with. Hyper-literate artists like Sufjan Stevens and others of that ilk, we are more able to undertake difficult and at times confusing concept albums. Vee Device has chosen to compose a rock opera inspired by Isaac Babel, a famous Russian short story author. Their rock opera is more “folk opera” and is a mixture of fabulous and forgettable memories. However, I can’t fault the guys for going big. AQFtD, Act 1 is a challenging and mildly rewarding folk opera with Act 2 on the way.
